Unleash the full potential of your external hard drive. Dont be content with the slow data transfer speeds offered by the USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 interfaces.
If your External HDD has an eSata Port, go for this cable and see the difference it makes to the data transfer speed.
What is eSata ?
External Serial Advanced Technology Attachment or eSATA is an external interface for SATA technologies. It competes with Firewire 400/800 and universal serial bus (USB) 2.0 to provide fast data transfer speeds for external storage devices.
The main advantage of using eSATA is the fact that it is capable of transferring speed about three times faster than FireWire 400 and USB 2.0. Unlike FireWire and USB, eSATA does not translate data since it is being copied or moved from the interface towards the computer or vice versa. This enables the computer to save processor resources while allowing the user to enjoy high-speed data transfer. Moreover, eSATA also possesses a hot-swappable feature that greatly expedites the process of taking storage devices from one place to another. In order to use the eSATA external disk storage, you need to make sure that your desktop computer has an eSATA connector. For desktop motherboards that don’t have an eSATA connector, you can buy and install an eSATA IO interface from our store and connect the internal SATA to External SATA. eSATA enables use of fast SATA drives for external disk arrays, not only expanding valuable storage real estate, but also enabling truly fastportable storage. eSATA's hot-swappable feature makes taking disks from work to home, or from one computer to another, a snap. Administrators, IT techs, advertising and marketing executives, and even gamers will find this beneficial.
SATA has differing standards, with older hardware supporting the original standard exclusively. With each new SATA iteration, speed increases. Original SATA, or SATA/150, has a data transfer speed of 150 megabytes per second (MB/s). SATA II or SATA/3Gbs doubled the speed to 300 MB/s or about 3 Gbits/s. This is also sometimes referred to as SATA/300.
